It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood…
I’ve been busy and as someone who is busy, that doesn’t leave alot of time for stuff and or things. Things like this blog ( I am sorry ). Though to be fair, the trope of “Web dev who doesn’t update their blog” is as old as “Man who say’s he’ll only go out for one drink”. So yeah. If you expected something more regular, that’s on you.
Tarkov.Dev
I started off the year strong by contributing numerous style, layout and large refactors to tarkov.dev . It’s a fun little companion website for the video game escape from Tarkov. I played the game alot over the winter months and used the website as a resource to save my (video game) life on more than 100 occasions. It always feels good to contribute to something you know others actually use, rather than say, a dead-in-the-water to do app. It’s written in react, so I did have to use that part of my brain when solving certain problems - but it’s a good community of contributors over there, you always learn something in your PR’s.
CodePills
codepills was / is a silly little repo to make something useful for others, it’s just a fancy JS generator for a list of brands, with lots of built in custimisations. You can let’s say, generate 10 branded “pills” for your portfolio, and have them with borders, gradients, rounded and right aligned, in one line of code. It’s neat. You can find it here.
Non-public stuff
My personal life has been hectic, to say the least. I’ll just put “big changes” here and move on, but in terms of CODE, I’ve really been enjoying Blazor lately. I’ve dipped my toes back in again, just because I got the itch , and I followed along with some basic microsoft tutorials to get a feeling for the ecosystem in a “day to day” manner - I really do like it, it’s grown on me. The idea of having your server, middleware and frontend all nicely in one IDE window is a big selling point for me. I’ll be interested to build something with it this year and see how I get on.
Honestly I just don’t know enough about the C# ecosystem and how everything works together currently to be proficient, and I feel like the internet is HEAVILY saturated with outdated, non-functional c# code. So that’s my struggle. I might look to an A.I generated tutor type deal, but I’ve been having diminishing returns on learning new skills via A.I lately.
Just quickly touching on that point, I’ve certainly noticed since January that the code quality / ability of A.I to break down complex subject matters and “teach” them has gone a bit “meh”.
Anyways
Thats it. I’ve not done much in the way of music lately, though I have resumed making short poems and short stories ( I know, it’s as sad as it sounds ). I do quite like the idea of writing some short stories this summer, not because I think I can be an author ( reality check: I don’t) - but because much like coding, I do really enjoy just typing my thoughts out, then reading them over and going “Oh neato, I did that”.
Well, this is “mr does alot but completes little” saying good evening, good morning and goodnight.
